The Future Farmer Card Game is a strategic game where players race to build resilient, productive farms that generate ecosystem service credits (PES): the currency that wins the game.
Along the way, you’ll weather droughts, pests, and economic recessions while leveraging agroforestry, food forests, and cutting-edge innovations. Fun, fast, and surprisingly educational.
The game is inspired by real farmers around the world who are trying to make a difference: people who choose agroforestry over monoculture, who plant trees instead of burning them, and who prove every day that resilience and productivity can go hand in hand.

2 to 6 players. With 2 it’s a tactical head-to-head duel. With 4 or more it gets chaotic, alliances shift, and Challenges fly across the table. Most games settle around 3–4 players as the sweet spot.
About 30–45 minutes for a standard game to 15 PES credits. You can shorten it to 10 PES for a quick round, or raise it to 20 for a longer session. Teachers often run 30-minute rounds that fit neatly into a class period.
Absolutely. The game was designed by a practicing forester and every card — from Agroforestry to Flash Floods — reflects real ecological dynamics. It maps to geography, environmental science, and biology curricula for ages 10 and up. Teacher guides with lesson plans, discussion prompts, and assessment rubrics are included with school packages.

10% of every sale goes to The Grove — a real 10-hectare restoration site on a degraded dryland slope. Every November, native trees are planted, photographed, and documented. The site is already home to over 210 species. Kickstarter backers at Grove tier and above receive a named tree with annual species reports, survival data, and photos.
PES stands for Payment for Ecosystem Services — a real-world mechanism where landowners are compensated for the environmental benefits their land provides, such as carbon storage, water filtration, or biodiversity. In the game, PES credits are your score: the more resilient and ecologically valuable your farm, the more credits you earn.
53 unique cards across three types: 18 Farm Modules (your farm and production), 21 Innovations (tools and strategies), and 14 Challenges (droughts, pests, recessions). Plus an illustrated rulebook and a tuck-box. Every card features real science, witty flavour text, and beautiful artwork.
Currently the game is only available in English. Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, and Chinese translations are planned, but they depend on funding. Back us on Kickstarter to help make the next language happen.
